Network Interface constantly switching on and off?

by james.ash . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

I just picked up a computer off ebay that has a K8NGM-V motherboard. It has an AMD64 processor onboard Nvidia Graphics and onboard Nvidia Nic (at least thats the drivers that came with it). I did a google search for “download K8NGM-V motherboard drivers” and all I got in the download was the (Nvidia)video driver and not the NIC driver. I can connect to the internet but the connection is constantly on off and is difficult to do anyting with.

I did a fresh install of WinXP-Pro (ED) and I have a constantly changing nick status. “A network cable is unplugged” balloons up from the task bar 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off. (nonstop)

If I open the connection properties window the Network Connection does the same thing 2 seconds connected, followed by 2 seconds of “network cable is unplugged”

Thinking the onboard NIC was bad I purchased a new LINKSYS ehterfast PCI NIC installed it an I can’t get any network connection from it, at all.

The onboard NIC is at least consistent in that it works 2 out of every 4 seconds.

Anyone know how to cure this????? Pizza and 2 litres of Soda to 1st person (or robot) to solve this freekin nightmare for me…
