New one on me

Newly built machine, WinXPSp3, Office 2000, Everything works except Access, try to open any database and I get “RunTime Error 1_2147220999 (800401F9)”. Uninstalled office, re-installed, uninstalled and reinstalled a different version, uninstalled and installed Access runtime only. Machine is all updated but it doesn’t seem to matter to the access problem.
First occurred on SP2 update made no difference.
