NIC not functioning with new motherboard

by mike o . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

Got a weird one… I replaced the motherboard in my system (upgraded to an Asus P4S333) and I cannot get a NIC to work under Linux (neither Red Hat 7.2 nor Mandrake 8.2). Networking works fine under Windows 98SE on the dual-boot, and both cards I’vetried worked fine under Red Hat 7.2 without any tweaking under my previous motherboard/installation, but for some reason I can’t get any traffic with the new motherboard. The NIC seems to be installed correctly and the driver is showing up, and I can start the eth0 interface manually with ifconfig eth0 up, but I cannot get it to pass any traffic nor pick up IP information via DHCP.

I tried tweaking some of the motherboard settings (changed Plug & Play OS back and forth, turned Onboard PCI LAN control off and on), but still no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Take care,
Mike
