NIS daemons missing. installed as server

by ieatbuggz . Updated 21 years, 3 months ago

I installed and reinstalled on multiple PC’s
Fedora Core 3 as a server, and under custom. Selected Network server (with DHCP,NFS/NIS, etc).

I would like to set up NIS but the problem is that there is no ypserv and ypinit in the /etc/rc.d/init.d dir. I searched the entire file system as well. no results. At the command line i typed service ypserv start. even after cd /etc/rc.d/init.d as root!

why would the installation skimp on this.

I cant run yp-tools.rpm from the cd since NIS is appatently installed. ypbind is there and some other services exists. Heck, I can even pull an ‘nisdomainname mydomain | nisdomainname ‘ and output on standard out put will see mydomain.

any suggestions? i would like to have NIS running so i can finish my linux admin book thanx.
