Not resolving internally

by gerry a . Updated 23 years, 9 months ago

Hi.

I just installed a Linux 7.2 box and I can’t get it to resolve names within our network. Pinging “linux.xyz.com” or “linux” returns a “bad ip address” on windows machines, and pinging a machine within our network from the linux box by name returns “unknown host”. Our primary and secondary DNS servers are SCO boxes we’re using bind. The linux box is resolving names outside of the network perfectly. For now, resolv.conf shows similar to the following:
nameserver 38.166.146.2
domain xyz.com

Named is not running on this machine as this will not be a DNS server.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
