Hi,
We have a network/software problem. Has anyone has had a similar situation?
1. 3 weeks ago we migrated our ?Order Entry? from Novell v4.1 to Win2k
2. Order Entry is a FoxPro database v 2.6. Clients connect from a network share.
3. Novell servers P166, not upgradeable. But with over 150gig of data
4. Before migration, our network was a mix of NT 4.0 and Novell 4.11 servers. 20 running NT 4, and 2 running Novell, IPX/SPX
5. Network is a single subnet, 60 workstations (Win98), T1 withCisco Router and a firewall. Have 2 switches, Cat5 cable. PDC is NT 4
6. We are a global company and run 24/7
7. In a year, we will phase out FoxPro for an Oracle database.
8. Problem: After migration from Novell to Win2k, ?Order Entry? occasionally get duplicate order numbers.
9. This is now a major problem. We can NOT able to duplicate the problem on a test system. It runs perfectly on the test system.
10. Problem is becoming more frequent. We are finding some orders did not show up and were dropped.
11. We have caught most errors before the orders were sent. But we are not certain how many more order errors were created.
12. Attempts to correct the problem are as follows?
a. Remove file caching from network shares
b. Disable network share time-out (default is 15 min)
c. Disable / Enable Opertunistic file locking
d. Enable file locking in Win2K registry
e. Enable file locking on Client PC?s
f. Removed Anti-Virus program from Client PC?s
g. Check, configure, adjust network drops in the switches
h. Removed or disabled any extra services or programs from server and clients
i. Tried using different Operating systems on the Client workstations (ie NT4 Workstation, Windows 2000 Pro)
13. Reloading the Windows 2000 server may be necessary but we really do not want the system down for a reload.
Any ideas? I would like to discuss this with anyone who has experienced a similar problem?
