NT Mandatory User Profiles

We are using Mandatory user profiles on NT server and Workstation. The user profiles are kept on the server.
When a user changes any of their settings, whether it be their desktop colours or options in Word, the alterations aren’t being retained within the user’s mandatory profile.
Does anyone know what can be causing this?
