NT mysterious Login’s

We have an general NT network using Windows 98 clients. Server security log entries show that machines are regularly attempt to login to other accounts other than the one in use on the machine. (seems also to be accounts never used on the machine). This occurs even on machines not running any applications at all. Is this normal?
