Nt server disk problems

I recently removed (hot swapped) one of the two physical disks from my NT server to do a test on a faulty nt server. When the Physical hard disk was put back in, the system refused to recognize it. It couldn’t see any of the drives on the disk it just says “file directory currupt or non-readable”. When rebooting, it says “\$VOLUME not readable run chk disk utility”. that disk has a lot of data that has been updated since the last backup. All drives are on NTFS. Any ideas on how I can recover itwill be appreciated.
