Ofc2000 requires CD to make changes

Am I beserk or did Microsoft do it to us (again)? I started a new job & inherited a stack of unidentified MSOfc CDs. When a user wants to make a simple change, the MS installer wants the original CD. Is there a way around this? How are you guys handling this?
