Office 2007 – can you still use Word 2003?

Hi! The office where I work has recently purchased 40 Office 2007 packages. We are currently only using Outlook 2007 until our database program is upgraded to be compatible with Office 2007. Have been advised by IT friend not to use Word 2007. My question is, can we use all of the Office 2007 products except Word 2007 and continue using Word 2003?
