Office 2007 compatibility pack

We installed office 2007 on a machine only to find that it broke a different peice of software.

We then uninstalled Office 2007 and REinstalled Office 2003. After reinstalling Office 2003 we installed the compatibility pack for Office 2007, but we get the error:

‘The converter failed to open the file’

Any clues on this one?
