office 2007 offline????

i have one machine at my job w/ office 2007 seemingly running just fine but. the office icon in the system tray has a red x on it and it say microsoft office is offline. the computer is logged in to the network but new office messages stay in the outbox folder. does anyone have experience troubleshooting this problem???
