Offsite storage of Tape Backups

My company has a campus with multiple buildings with servers in each building connected by a point to point T-1.
Each building that has a server also has a large fire proof safe used by another department. Am I unreasonable in telling my superiorsthat I do not need to take backup tapes home with me to ensure security in case of disater.
To me offsite storage of the backup tapes would be to keep a tape from one building in the fire proof safe of another building.
