Old laser printer

I’ve got a Canon LBP-8 Mark III laser printer. It still works wonderfully, the toner is cheap, and it prints fine from Windows. However, I can’t get it to work under Linux.

I’ve heard that using the HP LaserJet 4 driver should be close enough to this printer to make it work, but all the printer ends up doing is spitting out page after page of junk. Anyone have any better ideas?
