Old PowerPoint file problem – won’t open

I have a file from PowerPoint 1997 that will not open. i get an error message that says:

“You are attempting to open a file that is blocked by your registry policy settings.”

Can anyone give me an idea of what settings I need to tweak to open this file and save it in a more recent format?
