Old Powerpoint presentation – unable to open

I have a PowerPoint presentation (PPT) from 1994 which I cannot seem to open with any new version of PowerPoint. I get this odd message “You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.” But the file type is PPT, just like newer files under PowerPoint. HELP! I really need these old presentations!
