Oracle install on Solaris 2.6

I’ve been in the process of installing Oracle8i on a Solaris machine. When the install begins to create the database at about 75% completion i get a ora-01034 error. Does anyone know Oracle installation on Unix. or a place to decipher Oracle error codes?
