Outlook 2007 reverts to closed mode when deleting an email

While reading today’s email, being in the mail, and not viewing a summary list, if I delete a message, Outlook reverts back to summary view. Outlook 2000, didn’t do that, when I deleted an email, the following email appeared on my screen, now I have to click back in, and if I delete that message I am thrown back out, it is very tedious, is there a setting I can click to work the old way?
