Packet Switching – CRC / Parity Checking

I’m doing a project that to create an Data Link simulator to detect and correct the error occured in a particular packet switching. And also “help the network design to understand the various data link protocols and parameters.

Can someone tell me how does the cyclic Redundancy check (CRC)/ Parity checking actually working in detecting sense, and how the coding/script looks like? please help.
