Warm, humid Texas greetings to y’all!
I’m an engineer/systems analyst for a small network integrator down here in Houston. Our clients call us when they have IT problems, and we fix them at an hourly rate. Simple so far…
The company owner/president wants me to agree to a job description that bases my performance upon my billable hours. I’m balking at the notion because I can’t control them directly… that’s the job of a salesman, right? If I don’t have a task from a client, I can’t generate billable hours!! (At least, that is my thinking)
I think my performance metrics should be customer satisfaction, implementation of proper fixes, cost-savings, etc… things I can control. Am I wrong in thinking this?
Does anyone have any documentation regarding my situation? (ie, performance appraisals for billable assets?)
Your thoughts/comments greatly appreciated!!
Joe – Houston, TX
