These are the details:
The AE’s Excel (AE.xls) spreadsheet is reading info from the Accountant’s spreadsheet (OPR.xls); ie OPR.xls is linked to AE.xls, so that when the AE’s open their spreadsheet, excel asks if the user wants to update the links.
The AE’s open their own AE.xls, but must not be able to open OPR.xls. Excel must be able to read from OPR.xls to AE.xls The linking must be able to be used, even though the AE musn’t access OPR.xls.
This is what I did:
The “Accounting Folder” has the following permissions:
Accountant = full control
Sales MGR = Full Control
System = Read
In Folder A is OPR.xls and these are the file permissions:
MGR Full Control
Sales MGR – Read
(now comes the problem)
I add everyday
the Sales Group = Read
In Folder B is AE.xls:
Each AE has their own file (ie Gary.xls, Glen.xls, etc) and they have Read permission to the file, as do the Administrators.
I then added a shortcut on each AE’s desktop to their respective file (AE.xls).
