Pivot Table formatting

I find (proably due the lack of my own skills)formatting a pivot table frustrating. The automated version are not alwasy suitable in a rofessional environment, as they tend to be a bit flashy rather than sophisticated. Can anyone assit how to best manually format a pivot table.
