Please help this dummy…re: XP OS mistake

by mitziahn . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

Everytime I started my PC up, a menu would appear asking me to choose the OS I wanted (there were 2 choices). Since this annoyed me, I thought I’d try to fix it. BIG mistake. I did something to the boot.ini file in Notepad and now I’ve lost the OS I was trying to designate as the only one I wanted booted up! So I re-installed XP from the CD and chose the option to NOT replace the exisiting XP OS (which is the one that I want and has all files, pictures, etc). I thought that after I installed it, the same menu would appear asking me to choose the OS I wanted…BUT alas, it did not; it just automatically opened up the new (unwanted) XP OS that I had just installed. At this point, I’m in tears…have I lost my previous OS with all my stuff? How do I get it back? Thank you so much in advance. Please help and I’ll be so grateful.
