PMP benefits

Wanted to know the benefits of a Project Management Prof certification. I am a Certified Information Systems Auditor. Though I am into project management tasks at the moment, in the longer run I want to be in more of IT management roles. More in a securities/banking firm.
Could someone help. I dont want to hold on to too many certifications…would like to get it only if I can do justice to it.
