Powerpoint (lack of Images)

I have had a powerpoint presentation forwarded to me by email. It is a very large presentaion and when I evntually open it up the pictures on the slides are not viewable. Instead of the picture,a “big red cross” is displayed.

Could anyone help me? Why are they not appearing , and how can this be rectified?
