Printer install failure

On my recent installation of XP, whenever I try to
install my printer, which, by the way, has its own driver
within XP, I get an ‘operation could not be completed’
message, with no further explanation. I’ve checked HP’s
site, and they don’t offer a driver(882C Deskjet) for XP
stating that XP contains its own driver. But, whenever I try to use the add hardware wizard, at conclusion, I get an, error: RPC server cannot be found. So I checked computer management, and verified that indeed,the RPC service is set to automatic and is started. Any ideas??
