Printer software reinstalling itself

by roysimmons . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

I have a problem with 2 out of 3 computers that are using a VPN connection part of the time. 3 computers in main office, 1 in satellite office and 1 at home. The main office computers use either a Lexmark or Brother printer. The satellite office has an HP 5500 series All-In-One (the problem). Home has an Epson C86.

When I connect to my main office computer from home or the satellite, I have no problem. All of the printers are installed on my main office computer. My wife can connect to her computer at the main office from home and print what she may need on the Epson at home.

The problem seems to be with the satellite office and the HP printer. This printer is installed on all 3 main office computers, and as I?ve said I don?t have a problem printing on the HP. The other 2 however keep getting bothered by the HP software trying to reinstall itself on their main office computers and have almost no success at printing something while at the satellite office. I?ve uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software on the other 2 computers to no avail.

Do I have to have the HP printer physically connected to these 2 computers when I install the HP software? That may have been the case when I added it to my computer, but it was so long ago, I?m not sure. OR, is there anything different about our VPN connections that would cause this problem?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
