Problem mounting cdrom under X/Gnome

For some reason X/Gnome (Redhat 6.1) wont mount my CD-ROM. The CD-ROM runs off of a SCSI card and is /dev/scd0. It works under text mode but refuses to work under X/Gnome and tells me I have “invaild media”. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
