Problem regarding reading DVD’s on my computer

Hellow.
I have Sony’s DVD Writer througth which i can write DVD’s Cd’s. But problem is that when i play DVD other than SONY; DVD is unable to read. But any movie or data DVD for which i used SONY Company’s DVD is read by DVD Writer.
So is there any problem of DVD hardware or XP-Service Pack- 2 or Software related DVD?
