Problem uninstalling IE 8 beta 2

by dadamski . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

I recently installed IE 8 beta 2 . everything seemed fine at first but after restarting the computer although IE would load (the homepage google) it would not load anything else (sites etc) and would come up with a box saying ‘the requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context’ this was the same with all the favorites. i decided to uninstall IE 8 so tried add/remove programs which did not work a black box came (containing nothing) flashed up then disapeared . so next i tried the method on microsoft support

1. Carefully select and then copy the following command:
%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
2. Click Start, click Run, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
3. Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
4. Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer. Then follow the Next steps to verify that your previous version of Internet Explorer is restored

This method also flashed up the box as before then did nothing i am now stuck as i cant go back to IE 7 or 6 so im wondering what to do. my stystem restore does nothing to change this

has anyone got any ideas

many thanks
