Problem with cat5e

Ok, here is my problem. I recently dropped a cat5e cable from a home office to my family room. I used wall plates at either end and have tested the connection which has signal accross all eight strands. Now, I use a patch cable from my router in the office to the wall plate, and a second patch cable from the other wall plate to my laptop.

Will not work. The computer knows something is plugged in and it shows 4 – 6 packets received, but nothing sent.

I tried using both patch cables directly to the router and they both work. The run is only 45′. None of the cables are crossover.
