Problem with Sony DVD Writer DRX 720-UL

DVD Reading problem,

I am using a Sony DVD external read write version DRX 720-UL. It was working well untill recently when it stopped recognizing DVD’s. It reads CD’s perfectly and writes it also. I want to know if the problem is with the hardware or the winxp I am using.
