I have a clients Laptop Win 98 which behaves rather strangely (processor keeps peaking out over a 100%, 99% of the time and the HDD grinds along at a thousand miles p/hr) when she opens Internet Explorer and the DialUp connection is made. This doesnot happen when not connected to the Internet. I have checked background processors running and there is nothing unusaul there. The HDD has been check for available capacity and there is plenty of both memory & HDD space. I have used a product called Ad-aware to find and delete any unwanted cookies that may have been downloaded without her knowlodge but still the problem exists. Can you suggest another means of trying to find out what the Laptop thinks it’s trying to do as it becomes very annoying when it takes between 2-3 minutes to close a window let alone do any real work?
