product configurator

Has any of you experience with a product configurator that can be used as a clearing house for several (legacy) systems within the company. We could use Changengine of HP, but I find implementation difficult (lot of Perl scripting, even coding for ODBC drivers has to be written). I want the front office (of course) web-enabled.
