proxy server and routers

I have a proxy server set up with 2 nic cards and a DSL connection to the internet. My problem is that I have remote locations that i access via a router. I cannot access the proxy server from the other side of the routers. If I add a default gateway to the internal network card on the proxy server it gets confused. Is there anything I can do to use the proxy server over a wan?
