recovery in windowsxp

How do I recover in windowsxp I have an Acer Aspire that is constantly freezing and I have tried many ways to resolve the problem as it comes with no recovery disk. I have managed to get into the Erecovery system to load a clean windows xp programme but during this it froze can anyone help please!!!!
