red hat install locksup

I have win98 first ed. on a 20 gig drive primary and a open 40 gig secondary drive I?m trying to install red hat 7.1 on the 40 gig and I get to the formatting of the second drive and the systems locks up restart install and I get to the packages to copy I get about 20 meg into the copy and the system locks again any help
