Request timed out in windows xp

i am connecting laptop and desktop via crossover cable. firewall is off, antivirus is also disabled, LAN is connected, and getting reply from 127.0.0.1

but still i am unable to get connected to my systems.

i have also used switch to connect but all in vain.

please help
