Restore files from older taps

I ungraded the Verias Backup Exec software to V.8.6 last week and I uninstalled previous version which was V.7.0. My question is how can I restore files from tapes last month or even last year since I can not find old catalog and I didn’t know I should copy down. Is it anywat to build old catalog or something like that? I will appreciate any suggestions and please help me.
