Restoring a deleted mailbox (Exchange 5.5)

I have restored a deleted mailbox (Exchange 5.5)and it worked OK.(Using Arcserve).
However, all of the mails in the inbox (631)have all now got a sent date of today (the date and time of the restore).
Is this how it works, or can I do something to get back the original send dates of each mail?
