Route physical and virtual machines to different NIC’s

I have a physical PC with two NIC’s on which I’ve created a virtual machine with VMWare Workstation. I want the physical machine to use NIC #1 (10.16.2.x). I configured the virtual network to use NIC #2 and it’s routed to use 192.168.1.x. That all works fine. Is there a way to force my physical machine to use NIC #1? I want to put my virtual machine in the DMZ and don’t want my physical machine to route traffic that way. But I think I’ve created two “default” gateways and it’s routing traffic for the physical machine through NIC #2. Thanks.
