Run command

I am working on an WinNT4.0 wkst that will not perform ny task after I input a command from the Run command window. Example: I will type the cmd n the Run windows from Start bar, then type ipconfig… I get a reply that the command is not a recognized command. Any command entered comes back with the same error. I can access the cmd window from the %System%/system32/cmd.exe and have no problem running a task there.
