SAP in non IT companies

hi,ive been offered a trainee post in a pharmaceutical company which says that they’ll provide training in SAP,and ill have to work in functional areas.
Ive done engineering in IT.
what will be my role on SAP in a non IT company??
will i find it hard later to switch over to the IT field?
