SATA DVD burner not recognized

I had an IDE HD, IDE CD burner and a IDE DVD burner that went bad. I bought a SATA DVD burner and installed it. It functions as far as opening and closing but all my burner programs, including Nero 7 Essentials which it came with will not recognize the new SATA DVD burner. Do I have to set something in the BIOS?
