Save as Lotus wk1 from Excel loses info

Using ODBC I have imported a file containing over 29,000 lines sucessfully into Excel. In the save as .wk1 I only get 8,192 lines. Does anyone have a workaround? I am in the process of converting to a new software system and if I could convert the data directly it would save time.
