SBS 2003, Profile Path and User Template not working

I have a fresh install of SBS 2003 with SP1. I have edited the User Template so that it includes the profile path \\server\profiles$\%username%. The problem is that when I use the wizard to add a new user, the profile path is left blank. Anyone know what gives?
