Screen Resolution between Laptop and docking station LCD monitor

Hi,
I am using HP Laptop and XP professional OS.
In office I have docking station and I attend lots of meeting through out the day.
When I put my Laptop to docking station the LCD monitor I am using with it will come up with screen which would not show the complete screen, also if I keep my laptop lid close the LCM monitor will come up, if I keep my laptop lid open it wont.
Also when ever I docked my LT i have to adjust my resolution by going into properties.
My question is that a way to make the screen resolution locked and if I docked my laptop it will show the correct resolution on the LCD monitor rather than adjusting it everytime.
