scsi card

I own a Umax Astra 1200 scanner, it worked great with my old PC. With my Dell pentium I need to buy a new scsi card @65.00. My son tells to throw away the scanner and buy one with a USB or parallel port. Is it possible to convert scanner to one of these connections with an adaptor.
