Security Procedures For Leaving Users

Has anyone any tips and tricks on security procedures for users who are about to leave the company whether they are aware of it or not. Our company HR will decide to get rid of someone and then inform IS. Then two weeks later we receive hardware from the user that we weren’t expecting.

Has anyone got set procedures regarding this sensitive and grey area.
